Singer Jamelia was one of the nominees for Wednesday's Music of Black Origin (Mobo) awards in London. Corinne Bailey Rae took three awards, including best UK female. Her performance at the Royal Albert Hall harked back to the 1940s. Rapper Coolio joined comedy star Gina Yashere to present the awards. Lemar won two Mobo awards last year - and took home the best UK male prize this year. This year's Mobos dropped the jazz and world music prizes - but there was room for Batman Samini to walk home with the best African act award. Up-and-coming performer Akala - younger brother of 2002 Mobo winner Ms Dynamite - was named best hip-hop act. Sam Moore - one half of 1960s soul duo Sam and Dave - was given a lifetime achievement prize. He performed with UK R&B star Keisha White
