Canada is in shock and an investigation is under way after a gunman's shooting spree in Montreal's Dawson College. Terrified students spilled out into the streets as the 25-year-old gunman, said to be clad in black and carrying three guns, opened fire in the college canteen during lunchtime. Some took cover behind vehicles near the college. Other students described barricading themselves in classrooms, as the gunman stalked corridors and stairwells. One young woman was killed and 19 people were injured in the attack, at least five of them seriously. A nearby nursery and two shopping centres were evacuated during the police operation. Police said the gunman was shot by officers after they stormed the college building. The rampage has raised questions about security within Canadian schools and colleges. People are also asking how such an event could happen in a country that prides itself on tough gun control laws.
