Running's growing popularity has generated millions of pounds for the wider economy. The BBC Scotland news website asked how much running costs you. Alistair Currie, 41, from Edinburgh, said: "Running is getting really popular right now and running tourism generates millions for the Scots economy." Duncan Riddoch, 34, from Glasgow, said women were spending more on fashion trends in running. He said: "You can spend as much or as little on running as you like." Amanda Brown, 40, from Glasgow, said she took up running to keep fit. She added: "I have spent around �300 on shoes, entering events and equipment." Matt Williamson, 27, from Glasgow, is a running expert. He said: "I spend a lot on equipment, probably hundreds of pounds each year." Frank Clement, 54, is the organiser of the Great Scottish Run and a keen runner. He said: "Relatively speaking, it is a cheap sport to take part in." Scott Nicol, 37, from Milngavie, near Glasgow, spends a "fortune" on his running hobby. He said: "I must spend hundreds of pounds, if not more, each year on running."
