Hundreds of items from the former home of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent were auctioned in a sale at Cirencester on Friday. Several items sold for far more than expected, including this octagonal pink fabric-covered wardrobe which went for 1,050 rather than the estimated 20. The auction came after the royals sold their home, Nether Lypiatt Manor in the Cotswolds, in April and decided to sell many of its contents, including this table football game. Retired British Gas worker Paul Reeve, 56, snapped up two of the items being auctioned, admitting: "The royal connection was the only reason I bought them". A Leonardo figure of a white duckling in a bath was one of a five-piece lot which sold for 80. Hundreds of items of bric-a-brac the couple collected over the years found new homes. This Epiphone C50 acoustic guitar was one of the lots at the sale, held by auctioneers Moore, Allen and Innocent. Lot number 647 was a lacquered gold model of a Chinese Junk. Bids for items at the auction were emailed in from as far afield as the US, Australia, Cyprus and Scandinavia. A sealed bottle of Bollinger and a set of nine Champagne glasses sold for 130. TV antiques expert David Dickinson was at the auction and said some of the bids had "astounded" him.
