Performers gathered for the annual Edinburgh Festival Cavalcade on its 30th birthday

Crowds of more than 170,000 locals and visitors were said to have watched the parade take place

A varied mixture of colours, performers, dances and songs were on show at the event

More than 3,000 people marched through the streets of Scotland's capital city on Sunday afternoon

Performers completed the route through the centre of the capital in just over two hours

The completion of the Cavalcade means Edinburgh's festival season is now officially open
