The streets of Goma in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo are loud with the sounds of campaigning. The scramble for votes is intense, there are 114 candidates competing for only four places to represent the town as MPs. There is an air of excitement in the city. Loudspeakers shout out messages from the roofs of these hired trucks. Kambale Kalimbalu, waving here, appears to have the largest number of supporters out on the streets. Showers earlier on Tuesday did not dampen spirits. Here people gather at the hustings of a female candidate to hear her views.
