For nearly 50 years Jerry Schatzberg has excelled as a photographer and film-maker. From 5 July the Atlas Gallery is showing his work including iconic shots of Bob Dylan.

His work has appeared in many of the world's leading publications, such as Vogue, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Life and Glamour magazines.

Schatzberg liked to spend time with his subjects, getting to know as much about them as possible, to grab that elusive moment that would reveal a little of their inner self.

As happy with the moving image as the still one Schatzberg won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival with his 1973 film Scarecrow staring Al Pacino and Gene Hackman.

One of Schatzberg's legendary pictures of Dylan appeared on the front of the musician's critically acclaimed album Blonde on Blonde (left).
