Pope Benedict XVI is making his first trip to Poland since being elected to the papacy a year ago. The Pope was greeted at Warsaw airport by a guard of honour from the Polish Navy. He will refrain from speaking his native German because of the Nazi invasion of Poland. The Pope has already been to southern Italy and to Germany - but the trip to Poland is the first one he scheduled himself. Flag-waving crowds lined the streets of Warsaw to greet the pontiff at the start of his four-day visit. He later addressed a gathering of the Polish clergy at St John Cathedral in Warsaw. Hundreds of thousands will gather in Poland to see the Pope, but this pilgrim has walked from the Czech Republic to Krakow to see the pontiff.
