The Turner Prize shortlist for 2006 has been announced, with four artists competing to win the first prize of �25,000. Nominee Mark Titchner works across a variety of media, using lightboxes and hand-carved contraptions. Titchner uses a wide range of references in his installations, from music lyrics to philosophy. Tomma Abts is included on the Turner Prize shortlist for her "intimate and compelling" abstract paintings. This work, Mehm, is a canvas combining acrylic and oil, which Abts created last year. Solo exhibitions of Tomma Abts's work have been held at Kunsthalle Basel in Switzerland and the Greengrassi gallery in London. Turner nominee Rebecca Warren is a sculptor whose work has been on display in New York, London and Cologne. Phil Collins (not pictured) has been nominated for "engaging" videos and photos involving diverse social groups. Work by the nominees, such as Baghdad Screentests by Collins, will be shown at Tate Britain in London from 3 October with the winner announced on 4 December.
