Five designs have been shortlisted for a new pedestrian crossing to be built over the river in Stratford-upon-Avon. The bridge will span the river near Holy Trinity Church, where William Shakespeare is buried and whose spire is depicted above. The bridge would also be near the Royal Shakespeare Company's Swan Theatre. People living in the Warwickshire town are to be asked what they think about the designs during the next eight weeks. If everything stays on course, the winning design will be chosen in November and the bridge could be built by autumn 2009.
