The surreal sight of people canoeing through the Tulane University district has been replaced by a more familiar view of a student haunt.

Minus the floodwater, this building outside the French Quarter looks much the same. But it has now been secured against trespassers.

Kenneth Jackson and friends refused to leave their home in the wake of the flooding. But now Mr Jackson's home is locked up.

Surrounded by water, the Superdome was at one time an infamous staging point for evacuees. Now work continues to reopen it as a stadium.
