At least 76 people were killed in a raid in north-eastern Kenya on Tuesday. The Gabras and the Boranas groups have long clashed over water and cattle but even these police officers were shocked by the latest attack. At least 22 of the dead were children - some slaughtered with machetes and guns in a school. Mamo Duba, 9, lost his mother, father and two siblings in the killings. Some of the victims were air-lifted to the capital, Nairobi, 560km away... ... The nearest hospital is 130km away and was overwhelmed with the casualties. This woman is having a bullet removed from her face. (Pic: The Standard) Soldiers have been sent to the area to restore calm... ... But some Gabras have reportedly already carried out a revenge attack on a nearby Borana village. The massacre took place in one of Kenya's most remote areas, where most people are nomads, who live from their animals.
