Johnny Depp looked deadly serious as he arrived at the Los Angeles premiere of his new film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, on Sunday. But the actor cheered up enough to wave at fans who had gathered outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Director Tim Burton also had a wave and a smile ready. His film is the second screen version of the Roald Dahl novel. The film-maker had previously worked with Johnny Depp on 1990's Edward Scissorhands and 1999's Sleepy Hollow. Johnny Depp's partner Vanessa Paradis also attended the event. The couple have two children, six-year-old Lily and three-year-old Jack. Britney Spears arrived wearing a T-shirt bearing the words "I have the Golden Ticket" and an arrow pointing to her unborn child. The singer and her husband Kevin Federline are expecting their first baby in the autumn. British teenager Freddie Highmore plays the eponymous Charlie, a young boy who wins the chance to tour Willy Wonka's top-secret chocolate factory. Highmore's co-stars Julia Winter and Annasophia Robb play spoiled brat Veruca Salt and champion gum-chewer Violet Beauregarde respectively. Actress Melanie Griffith attended the Hollywood launch with her daughter, Stella Banderas. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opens in the UK on 29 July.
