The second part of The Triumph of Painting exhibition has opened at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Examining how the medium of painting has survived and adapted to the multi-media age, it includes German contemporary artist Albert Oehlen's Piece. Berlin-based artist Thomas Scheibitz's work has been called 'post-Cubist'. The bud in this piece, Dubai, shows the incongruities of the artist's hand. Rock singer Peaches is portrayed in Polish artist Wilhelm Sasnal's work Girl Smoking - a theme which reoccurs in his work. Jesus and a sinner are depicted in Kai Althoff's untitled piece. The artist, who was born in 1966, is noted for trying to come to terms with German history through his work. Catastrophic events, such as this road smash, are a common theme in the art of Dirk Skreber, a painter based in both Germany and New York. The psychedelic qualities of Franz Ackermann's Mental Map: Evasion V is representative of his bright, colourful work. Ackermann is said to be on a perpetual hunt for 'modern exotica'. Albert Oehlen's 1989 piece Untitled furthers his desire to defy the expectations of traditional abstract art. The second stage of the Triumph of Painting exhibition continues until 30 October.
