British actress Rachel Weisz won a best supporting award for her role in The Constant Gardener, an adaptation of a John Le Carre thriller. Heath Ledger and girlfriend Michelle Williams missed out on individual acting awards but celebrated their movie Brokeback Mountain winning best drama. Philip Seymour Hoffman won best dramatic actor for Capote. He is now highly tipped to go on and win an Academy Award. S Epatha Merkerson, a regular on Law & Order, won best actress in a mini-series for the 1960s-set Lackawanna Blues. British hopefuls Keira Knightley and Bob Hoskins both left the awards ceremony empty-handed. Geena Davis' role as the first female president in Commander in Chief won her the best actress in a TV drama award. The Desperate Housewives actresses lost out on the individual TV acting awards but their show won best comedy for a second year. Hugh Laurie was one of only a handful of British winners. He won for medical series House, in which he plays a grumpy American doctor. The cast of Lost walked away with the best TV drama award, capping off a successful year. Sandra Oh was named best supporting actress in a TV drama for Grey's Anatomy.
