1 of 6 The Millennium Dome in south-east London will reopen in April 2007 as an entertainment venue. The building has been renamed the O2 to reflect the mobile phone company's sponsorship.
2 of 6 The centrepiece of the Dome's redevelopment is an indoor arena capable of seating 23,000 people. Organisers hope it will host up to 150 events a year.
3 of 6 According to plans announced on Wednesday, the Dome structure will also contain a smaller music venue with a capacity of more than 2,000 people.

5 of 6 There are also plans for a new exhibition space, to be housed in a bubble-shaped structure reportedly modelled on the Eden Project in Cornwall.
6 of 6 The Dome opened in 2000 but failed to attract the 12 million visitors expected. Since then taxpayers have paid more than �30m to maintain the building.
