Sony has unveiled its next-generation games console at the E3 games conference in LA. Microsoft launched its Xbox 360 last week, and Nintendo's console plans will be revealed this week, too.

The console will come in three colours: black, silver and white. It is due for release early next year.

The PlayStation 3 is dubbed a "supercomputer for entertainment", with a powerful new processor called Cell, which Sony says is 35 times faster than the current PlayStation chip.
