The day began with a tough early-morning commute for Simon Cavill, boarding the train at a station in Bath. For Tom Pengilley, in Wellington, Somerset, the journey was even tougher: "A photo taken as I cycled to work. I wish I had a car." These two were waiting for breakfast in Pam Capener's garden near Chardstock, east Devon. Snow was heavy at the heights of Trewinnick Farm, altitude 700ft, above Tintagel, Cornwall. Snow dusted Cornish trees with white, to create this pattern, captured by David Price. This stunning coastal scene at Golden Cap, Dorset, was taken by Steve Smith. At lunchtime, Zelda Pikoulis used a snowball and piece of ice to make a "snow art installation". And Adam Davis in Devauden, Monmouthshire, went out to enjoy some sledging, pictured by his father, John. No such fun for Ben Hosier, stranded in Bodmin. "I had to walk five miles in the snow carrying heavy equipment," he says. "It's a miracle we got out, our car is stranded." It was a calmer view out towards Port Talbot, where David Gill caught the winter sunlight. And in Armagh, Miruna Popescu captured the snow falling on the dark cathedral city.
