In pictures: London Film festival opens

The Constant Gardener, starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz, opened the 49th London Film Festival in London's Leicester Square on Wednesday.

Weisz had arrived at the rain-sodden venue alone after Fiennes' flight from Los Angeles was delayed.

But the actor had a warm greeting for his co-star when he did finally arrive.

The film, based on a John Le Carre novel, is directed by the Oscar-nominated Brazilian director of City of God, Fernando Meirelles.

Harry Potter and James Bond regular Robbie Coltrane was also in Leicester Square for the thriller's premiere.

Pop star Will Young also caught the film, ahead of its nationwide release on 11 November.
