Tony Blair on the campaign trail before becoming Britain's youngest prime minister in more than a century at the age of 43 in the 1997 general election. Adapting to life on the international stage in 1998, Mr Blair takes part in a debate with the then US President Bill Clinton. At the end of 1999, Downing Street confirms the Blairs are expecting another child. A still youthful prime minister shares a joke with Newcastle United's manager Bobby Robson on a visit to the club in 2000. But tough times are ahead... the prime minister gives a statement following the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September 2001. In 2002 - the prime minister takes to wearing glasses - on this occasion giving a speech on welfare reform to a job centre in south London. An increasingly assured statesman, Tony Blair receives US President George Bush as a guest in Britain in 2003. More problems... after undergoing a heart procedure in 2004, the prime minister is keen to show he is still fit. In February 2005 he says he has a ''passion' for a third term.
