Roald Dahl was born in Wales in 1916 to Norwegian parents. This collection of photographs taken by and featuring Dahl during his life is being auctioned at Christie's to raise funds for the Dahl Museum and Story Centre.

Children's novelist Roald Dahl (1916-1990), is famed for his stories such as Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. As a young boy, he developed a passion for photography which continued throughout his life.

Dahl's photographs, including this one of the writer in his school uniform, were reprinted by his grandson Luke Kelly. Dahl was known to his grandchildren as 'Mouldy'.

Dahl took his trusty Zeiss camera on foreign excursions, including the time he served in the RAF. This striking image is of Baghdad market in 1940.

This picture of a destroyed Hurricane aircraft on a Greek beach was taken by Dahl in 1941. An extract of his writing read by actor Johnny Depp is included with this item at the auction.

After the Second World War, Dahl moved to New York to establish himself as a full-time writer. There he met first wife Patricia Neal, with whom he had five children.

Dahl took this picture of the sculptor Henry Moore in 1975, visiting his home where there were "massive bronze sculptures scattered on the lawns".
