Hero's welcome

Double Olympic winner Kelly Holmes is being cheered through her home town, the Kent village of Hildenborough.

Holmes, 34, is the first British runner to win two golds in one Olympics since 1920.

Several family members were said to have joined the champion on the open-topped bus.

Holmes, wearing both medals, looked proud as she waved back at fans from the bus.

The athlete, who took gold in Athens both for the 800 and 1,500 metres, earlier said she was "gobsmacked" by her double victory.

Standing in front of Tonbridge Castle, Holmes thanked the crowd and said this was a day she would never forget.

The athlete said she was "overwhelmed" by the reception, and called for a round of applause for the rest of team GB.
