Candidates bid for last minute votes
London mayoral candidates
Some of London's mayoral candidates: Last chance to sway voters
London's mayoral hopefuls make their final pitches for votes on Wednesday on the eve of polling day in the historic elections.

Voters in the capital will be selecting London's first elected mayor when polling stations open on Thursday.

The city's five million voters will also be electing members of the new Greater London Asembly.

Meanwhile, elections for local councils in England are also being held on Thursday, along with the Romsey by-election caused by the death of Conservative MP Michael Colvin.

In London, the final day of campaigning sees Labour's Frank Dobson taking his message to train stations, while he will also be presented with a "Red Frank" cocktail at a London restaurant.

New boots

Liberal Democrat Susan Kramer will be completing her final high street walk of the campaign in Richmond, south-west London.

Ms Kramer has covered 150 of London's busiest streets during the campaign, and will be presented with a new pair of Doc Marten boots to replace those worn during the campaign.

Tory Steve Norris was due to campaign in London's financial district.

All are hoping to gain ground on independent Ken Livingstone, who opinion polls have constantly suggested is well ahead in the race.

Bookmakers have stopped taking bets on Mr Livingstone, saying his lead in the race looks "unbeatable".

Mr Dobson has already said that Mr Livingstone's lead would have to slip "a long way" for him to lose.
