| Stadium guide: Olympic heights Berlin's Olympic stadium could be in line for the final As one would expect, Germany's facilities are excellent. The Olympic stadiums in Munich, which has a capacity of 77,000, and Berlin (66,000) have already been proposed to host the opening ceremony and final. Borussia Dortmund's Westfalen stadium (52,000) is already up to World Cup standards as is Nuremburg's Frankenstadion which holds more than 43,000. New stadiums are also planned for Monchengladbach and Leipzig which will hold over 40,000, while a state-of-the-art ground to hold 52,000 is already underway in Gelsenkirchen.
The one criticism that could be levelled at Germany's stadiums once they are all ready is that many will have running tracks around the pitch, thus putting the crowd at some distance from the action. Otherwise, like the German bid as a whole, there will be very little to gripe about. | See also: 29 Jun 00 | 2006 World Cup decision 29 Jun 00 | 2006 World Cup decision Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top 2006 World Cup decision stories now: Links to more 2006 World Cup decision stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
