Danny Jordaan is leading the South African bid

South Africa have no household names from the football world on whom they can call to promote their bid - but personalities do not come much more respected or inspirational than bid supporter Nelson Mandela.

The image of the President wearing a replica of Francois Pienaar's shirt at the final of the Rugby World Cup in 1995 symbolised South Africa's return to the political and sporting world.

Here was Apartheid's most famous and long-suffering black citizen holding centre stage in the mecca of white South African sporting excellence.

Now he is hoping to prove as inspirational a figure for football, the sport of black South Africa.

Roger Milla has been called on to help

South Africa have also called on top footballers, like Cameroonian Roger Milla and Abedi Pele of Ghana, to help their cause - and the team are clearly trying to sell their bid as African as opposed to merely South African.

The campaign is led by CEO Danny Jordaan and chairman Irvin Khoza.

Prior to joining South Africa's World Cup bid, Jordaan was an ANC Member of Parliament from 1994 to 1997.
