| Order of Service The Scottish Executive has announced the Order of Service for the funeral of First Minister and Scottish Labour leader Donald Dewar. The funeral will take place at 1430 BST on Wednesday 18 October at Glasgow Cathedral. The first minister's coffin will then be taken to Clydebank Crematorium, just outside his Anniesland constituency, for a private ceremony. Click on the links for the relevant text. Order of Service Wednesday 18 October 2000 Welcome words from Dr William Morris of the cathedral, who will introduce Dr Reverend Douglas Alexander, Minister Emeritus of Bishopton, who will conduct the service. Hymn Number One - All People That On Earth Do Dwell. First Prayer - by Fr Joseph Mills, Corpus Christi, Knightswood. First Reading - from Scripture Isaiah by the Prime Minister, Tony Blair. Anthem by Cathedral Choir - Deep Peace. Second Reading - from RH Tawney - Equality. Read by David Whitton, the late first minister's spokesman. Personal Tribute - Ruth Wishart, broadcaster and journalist. Scottish Ballad - sung by Cathy Peattie MSP. Principal Tribute - by Gordon Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer. Second Prayer - by Moderator of the Church of Scotland, the Right Reverend Andrew McLellan. Second Hymn - Behold the Mountain of the Lord, followed by the benediction by Dr Morris (Glasgow Cathedral) spoken. The first minister's coffin will then leave the cathedral carried by seven pall bearers - three police officers, three firemen and one ambulance worker. |
