Indian police defended their actions during the Mumbai attacks in which gunmen went on a three-day rampage through the city.
The Taj Mahal hotel, scene of much of the bloodshed, had tightened security with metal detectors and other measures in the weeks before the attacks, after being warned of a possible threat.
Vishwas Rao Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Zone 1, called a press conference and said police had responded quickly with "effectiveness" and "guts."
