In the last few years the town of Sangin in northern Helmand has seen fierce fighting between the Taliban and British troops based there.
45 Commando of the Royal Marines, currently deployed in the district, have secured the town centre and some Afghans are returning to the streets, but tension remains high.
The BBC's Afghanistan Correspondent Ian Pannell joined a patrol of Sangin's market to assess progress.
