| Thursday, 14 March, 2002, 13:53 GMT Lockerbie judgement: In quotes ![]() Peter Lowenstein and his wife Suse at Camp Zeist Abdelbaset ali Mohmed al-Megrahi is facing life in a Scottish prison after judges rejected his appeal against conviction for the Lockerbie bombing. BBC News Online looks at the reaction to the judgement. "This is not a time for celebration, nor for despair. It is a time to gather our forces and to think what we can do to prevent this ever happening again." Dr Jim Swire "I have a firm belief that justice was done. He was guilty but he's not the only one, unfortunately." Peter Lowenstein "I think that everyone will have breathed a collective sigh of relief at the decision of the appeal judges." Marjory McQueen "The terrible events of September 11 have given these proceedings added poignancy. I believe that these proceedings have demonstrated what the judicial process can achieve when the international community acts together." Colin Boyd QC "Libya has shown a desire to turn away from international terrorism, but I urge the government of Libya to comply fully with the terms of United Nations Security Council resolutions." Jack Straw "This was clearly a political judgment and not a legal one. There was no clear evidence that this involved a Libyan citizen." Hafid Jhoja "Obviously no amount of money is going to bring the victims back, but at the very least there should be some compensation for families - particularly to help the very young families who lost a bread-winner in the tragedy." Professor Paul Wilkinson "I trust that in future, al-Megrahi will receive the same treatment as other prisoners at Barlinnie, rather than having hairdressers and dentists flown to Camp Zeist at great expense for his sole service." Dr Elaine Murray "It has been the most complex trial in Scottish legal history, with enormous international ramifications, and Scotland's justice system has shown itself to be equal to the task."
