Dr Les King has quit his role on the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs following the sacking the former chief advisor on the panel, David Nutt.
Speaking to the BBC, Dr King said he resigned because Professor Nutt was denied freedom of expression.
He also said the advice of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs is consistently ignored by the government.
