The head of the World Health Organisation's Global Influenza Programme, Dr Keiji Fukuda, has said countries should prepare for the possibility of a swine flu pandemic.
New cases of the deadly swine flu virus have been confirmed as far afield as New Zealand and Israel, as the UN warns it cannot be contained.
