Patients of Richard Neale demand 'justice'
Richard Neale patients/families
Patients and families are angry at treatment given by Richard Neale
Patients who claim they were left damaged by botched operations performed by gynaecologist Richard Neale have said they want justice from the General Medical Council (GMC).

Mr Neale is being sued by 60 women and faces a hearing at the GMC starting on Monday which could lead to him being struck off the UK's medical register if he is found guilty.

He was struck off in Canada 15 years after a pregnant woman treated by him died.

Sheila Wright-Hogeland is angry at treatment she received
Dozens of his former patients and their families travelled from Yorkshire to London for the GMC hearing.

Sheila Wright-Hogeland, also a patient of Mr Neale's at Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, Yorkshire, told the BBC: "I hope that we will see justice from this inquiry and this hearing.

"We do hope that the full truth about this doctor does emerge."

She described how she had an emergency hysterectomy after suffering pain and bleeding for many years.

She had had many check-ups with Mr Neale, but he took no action until the emergency operation, she claimed.

But after the operation she suffered serious complications and it took her eight months to recover, she said.

Mrs Wright-Hogeland, 47, who is suing Mr Neale for medical negligence, expressed anger that he was allowed to practise in the UK after being struck off in Canada.

Cathy Tanner, also a patient, said: "I hate him because he destroyed my family."

And another patient added: "We have borne our troubles for many years, with a lot of isolation, and this is the first opportunity publicly for those troubles to be acknowledged."
