Minister plans air duty protest

The increase was announced in a UK pre-budget report in 2006
The Jersey politician responsible for air travel says he hopes to lobby the UK over increases in passenger duty - but he says needs Guernsey to help.

From February, the tax is doubling from 5 to 10.

The Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Alan Maclean, said it was unfair on the Channel Islands as they relied much more on air travel.

He plans to meet members of Guernsey's Commerce and Employment department in a few weeks to discuss the situation.

The increase being introduced by UK Chancellor Gordon Brown is among a raft of green measures announced in the pre-budget report on 6 December 2006.
