Complaints over passenger delays
Jersey Airport
Passengers have been advised to check-in early for their flights
A senator has sent a complaint letter to officials at Gatwick Airport over air passengers missing their flights to Jersey due to lengthy security checks.

Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf said the way new security measures have been implemented have caused chaos at both terminals.

He said he has received a number of complaints from disgruntled passengers.

A Gatwick Airport spokesperson said they are ensuring extra staff are on duty over the holiday period.

But Mr Ozouf said the situation has worsened over the past few weeks.

Passengers booked on a Flybe flight on Sunday missed the flight because of long queues through security.

LIQUIDS PERMITTED
100ml containers in one-litre re-sealable clear plastic bag (20cm x 20cm)
Verified prescription medicines essential for flight
Baby milk and liquid baby food

Mr Ozouf said BA flights from the North Terminal are also being affected by delays.

In November, EU-wide rules limiting liquids to 100ml containers on flights were introduced following on from a foiled plot to bring down as many as 10 planes.

The new rules require the liquid containers containing items such as toothpaste, cosmetics and shaving foam be carried in a clear plastic, re-sealable bag that does not exceed 20cm x 20cm (8in x 8in).

At the airport security search, the plastic bag will need to be removed from the hand luggage and X-rayed separately.
