Scheme to boost island shellfish
About 50,000 juvenile scallops are to be introduced into the waters off Jersey's coast.

It is part of a scheme being supported by the States Fisheries and Marine Resources in an effort to boost the shellfish population.

The seeds will be flown from Scotland then transferred into the sea via water tanks at La Collette next Saturday.

Rules on the size of nets used to dredge for scallops in Jersey waters were introduced last October.
