New museum proposed for airport
Jersey Airport
It is hoped the proposals would prove a big draw for the airport
A proposal to open an aviation centre and museum at Jersey Airport are likely to be considered by the States.

The initiative has come from the Jersey branch of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA).

The association said it would like to create a mini-museum based on the style of a similar venture at a former RAF base at Duxford in Cambridgeshire.

It is hoped a plot of land to the south side of the airport in St Peter would be suitable for the new development.

Decision soon

It is thought Jersey's aviation heritage and unique geographical position would be a major draw for aircraft enthusiasts and visitors alike.

Senator Len Norman, from the Harbours and Airport Committee, said the scheme is one of several proposals being considered for the site.

If successful the RAFA would sell their properties in St Helier to help fund the project.

It is thought a decision on the site could be made in three to four weeks.
