Woman completes Channel challenge
The White Cliffs of Dover
Mrs Minty-Gravett set off from Dover on Friday morning
A Jersey woman has completed a personal challenge by swimming across the English Channel in each of the past four decades.

Sally Minty-Gravett set off on the 22-mile (35km) swim from Dover on Friday. She reached Cap Gris Nez, near Calais, just over 11 hours later.

Swimming the Channel with its shipping lanes can take between 10 and 17 hours.

Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club president Mrs Minty-Gravett previously swam it in 1975, 1985 and 1992.

Stroke rate

She has also swum around Jersey, Sark and New York's Manhattan Island.

Mrs Minty-Gravett set off from Dover on Friday at 0545 BST. She finished at about 1900 BST

Mr Minty-Gravett said his wife had a difficult time just after the start of the swim.

He said: "About an hour into the swim, Sally was very light-headed and nauseous, and her stroke rate dropped from just under 60 right down to about 54 or 55.

"But she got through that."
