Heritage group fights for house
St Helier
One of the houses in Hemrey Row is already listed
An application to protect an 18th Century house in Jersey has been made by an island heritage group.

The Council for Protection of Jersey's Heritage is campaigning to stop 37 Hemrey Row from being knocked down.

It is hoping islanders will support an application for the house to become a listed property.

The house, which was built in the early 18th Century, is one of two original buildings at either end of the terraced row in St Helier.

Number 45 is listed, but 37 is not. It was formerly an Indian restaurant but is currently unused. The three houses in the middle of the terrace are copies of the original buildings which were rebuilt in the 1980's.

The heritage group is dedicated to preserving town buildings and has written to the States Advisory Panel, which decides which island properties should be listed, to ask for 37 Hemrey Row to be considered.
