New policy for children's welfare
Child reading
The new policy is sanctioned by the Jersey Child Protection Committee
Children's welfare is at the centre of a new policy by the States and Family Nursing and Homecare Service.

It is the first time the organisations have worked together to adopt a common approach to child protection.

The policy gives directions on how to deal with concerns about child welfare, including how to identify abuse.

A designated doctor and nurse will ensure health care professionals have someone available who has been trained in the area of child protection.

Dr Tim Malpas, a consultant paediatrician at the General Hospital and Barbara Bell from Family Nursing and Homecare have been appointed to the new roles.

The policy has the support of Social Services and is sanctioned by the Jersey Child Protection Committee.
