Jersey's government has announced that it will no longer be holding a census every five years. The decision has been made to save 500,000 over the next five years, some of which will be used to improve how statistics are collected and used.
The next census will now be held on the island in 2011.
Policy and Resources President Frank Walker said the amount of data available meant the government did not need to hold one every five years.
In the UK, a census is taken every 10 years.
