Members of the public could be empowered to investigate complaints against Jersey States Members under proposals for a new code of conduct. The Privileges and Procedures Committee is recommending a new standards body made up of a States member, one from the Assembly and a lay person.
It argues the change promotes outside scrutiny of minor complaints and an independent view on more serious cases.
Some members fear it could undermine parliamentary sovereignty.
But supporters agree that someone from outside should have a say in the complaints process.
No date has been given for a final decision on the issue.
