Name given to new political party
States of Jersey
The island's States is currently run by committees
A working title for a new political party being set up in the Channel Islands has been announced.

Senator Ted Vibert claims he has the support of about 2,000 people for the Jersey Democratic Alliance.

The politician says the party will be honest and transparent and will pursue 'middle road' politics.

Its aims are to increase the representation of industries like tourism and agriculture which have lost out to finance.

Senator Vibert says the first meeting of his party will take place in April.

He is declining to say which States members are supporting him, saying voting records will indicate who they are.

Currently the island, which has no political parties, no cabinet and no prime minister is governed by committees, made up from 53 elected independent members.
