Gerald Durrell: "Zoos have a duty to save species"
The memory of the founder of Jersey's Durrell Wildlife Zoo is being remembered on Friday.

Gerald Durrell, who died 10 years ago this year, would have celebrated his 80th birthday.

The Indian-born wildlife broadcaster and author of 37 books, including My Family and Other Animals, said zoos had a duty to save species from extinction.

He set up Jersey Zoo in 1959 before founding the Durrell Wildlife Trust in 1963. He died in 1995 aged 70.
