A new scheme is being considered to help people who have trouble walking long distances to go shopping. Shopmobility provides wheelchairs for the elderly and other people who have trouble walking long distances to get around shopping areas.
The 'Shopmobility scheme' already works in over 450 UK towns and cities.
Now Edward Trevor, a retired London councillor who has just moved to Jersey, is looking to set up a scheme in St Helier.
He is hoping to set up a Steering Committee to raise funds for the project, to buy a mixture of manual and electric wheelchairs, which cost between �1,500 and �2,000.
If the scheme gets the go ahead, it is likely to be based on the lower ground floor of Sand Street Car Park.
