'Tourism' curate to be ordained
Jersey's first curate with a mission to support the tourism industry is to be ordained as a deacon on Sunday.

Judith Davey will work in the parish of St Brelade, after the service at Winchester Cathedral, which is being led by the Bishop of Winchester the Right Reverend Michael Scott Joynt.

Church tourism is a growing industry and she is being ordained as a curate to provide a ministry to visitors.

She will work alongside the rector, the Reverend Mark Bond.

At a time when churches around the island are struggling to fulfil their financial obligations to the Diocese of Winchester, new contacts are likely to bring financial benefits.

The tourism ministry hopes to establish strong links with parish hotels, and set up a web site to keep tourists in touch with the church throughout the year, as well as developing a retreat for worshippers.
