The Revels will take place under the shadow of the medieval castle |
People living in Jersey say they should not have to pay 10 to go to their local pubs in Gorey. The charge is being imposed during the Revels celebrations between 25-27 June when the island will mark 800 years of links with the Crown.
Islanders will also have to pay to visit homes in the arena area up until 2000 BST each night.
The area from the pier up to Gorey Castle will be closed for the celebrations.
Hotel passes
Customers who drink at the Dolphin Hotel say it is wrong to make them pay if they are not intending to go to the Revels.
But one Jersey hotelier, Renzo Martin, is paying for passes for guests staying at his hotel so people are able to participate and enjoy the festivities.
He said: "There will be a lot of entertainment which they can see and a lot of animation.
"Something I think Jersey has never seen.
"I feel if people do have to pay 10 to come to see an event or have a drink in my place, I think we have to be in the spirit of the event."
