A lack of fire exits means the community must leave its Mosque |
Jersey's Muslim community is struggling to find a place to worship after safety concerns have forced them out of their temporary mosque. There are no proper fire exits from the back room of the old Turkish Kitchen take-away at Cheapside in St Helier and it has been declared dangerous.
More then 200 people follow the Muslim faith in Jersey.
The community is looking for a room or hall, but Imam Alla Abdelbaky says the search is not proving easy.
He said: "There is a lot of difficulty, because this charitable trust takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of money and it takes a lot of effort.
"Everybody is busy as work and it takes time to look for someone to do it.
"Also finding a place is difficult because it's very expensive here and it's very expensive to keep."
