Town centre jewellers say they cannot open on a Sunday |
Jewellers in St Helier in Jersey are unhappy with plans to allow their shops to open on a Sunday. They have spoken of their concerns to Parish Constable Simon Crowcroft, who believes the move could harm the quality of life in the island.
The proposals are in response to out-of-town stores opening on Sundays.
But town centre retailers say they were unable to open on Sundays because of family commitments and problems with staffing.
Mr Crowcroft said the move could have a detrimental impact on the quality of life on a Sunday.
He is hoping to delay a States debate on the subject in order to hold a parish assembly for further discussions.
