Jersey's oldest war hero celebrated his 100th birthday on Friday and received a telegram from the Queen. Arthur James Newman has lived in St Brelade for all his live, except when he served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War.
He was the bosun on the SS Jasper Park, a ship torpedoed in the Indian Ocean during 1944.
His wartime memories were broadcast on BBC Radio Jersey last month by his daughter, Maureen Mannion.
Mr Newman will receive a visit from the Lieutenant Governor Air Chief Marshall Sir John Cheshire and Lady Cheshire.
