The winter timetable comes into effect at the end of September |
Pensioners living in Jersey may have to pay to use the island's bus service during peak times as from September. Bus operator Connex has published changes to the winter timetable which also include fare increases.
Pensioners will still be entitled to concessionary travel at all other times, but may have to pay during the morning and evening rush hour.
The Environment and Public Services Committee is asking the public to comment on the proposals.

Caroline Anderson, the director of corporate resources, says, with the island's ageing population, the cost of concessionary travel is going to increase. She said: "The primary aim is to maximise the capacity for regular commuters.

Evening rate
Daphne Minihane from Jersey Age Concern says, if the charges are introduced, she does not believe the morning fares will affect too many pensioners.
She said: "I personally think Connex and the Public Services Committee have tried their best to make the peak service at reasonable times."
"Some people may be affected between 4pm and 6pm, but if they're going for dinner, I'm sure they can travel a bit later."
The committee will also consider a new flat rate evening fare of 2 for travel after 2000 BST.
A new service linking Gorey and Jersey airport has also been proposed.
A decision will be made by the Environment and Public Services Committee at its meeting on 26 August.
The new winter timetable is due to come into effect on 26 September.
